Grace Lufborough Leggett Gips, 97, of Cuero passed away Friday, March 17, 2017. She was born July 1, 1919 in Mossy Grove to Otis Frank and Mary Jane Shaw Leggett. Grace married the love of her life, Clifton Elwood Gips on March 2, 1941. She represented Goliad High School in the State Tennis tournament in 1937. She later became an avid golfer, playing golf all around Texas with her husband and friends.
Grace thoroughly enjoyed life. She was a cheerleader at Goliad High School but kept that "role" throughout her life with her kids, grandkids, neighbors and golfers. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Cuero Golf Association. Grace will be remembered most for her big smile, great enthusiasm and an unwavering positive attitude. She loved being a life coach to young people and always wanted to instill in them how awesome life could be if you put God first, have dreams, set goals and not be afraid to pursue them. The way Grace lived her life will be an ongoing legacy to her family, friends, and all that knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Clifton Ray Gips (Charlotte) of San Marcos, Donald Ross Gips (Antranette ) and James Ottis Gips (Lanette) of Cuero; daughter, Beth Gips Feril (Aubrey )of Cuero; sisters, Lois Leggett Fischer of Victoria and Billie Jo Leggett Wagner of Cuero; and grandchildren, Sondra Gips Phillips (Spencer), Charles Mudd (Julie), Clint Henderson (Nikki), Doak Gips, JP Gips (Colleen), Matthew Gips (April), Hunter Feril (Kirstin) and Reagan Feril; great-grandchildren Marissa Gonzales, Haleigh Mudd, Emily Mudd, Abby Henderson and Parker Henderson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Gips; parents, Otis and Mary Jane Shaw Leggett; sisters, Dorothy Leggett Kirkwood, Blanche Leggett Goldsum, Lorna Leggett Reese and brothers, Ralph Douglas Leggett and William Ray Leggett.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Sharon Wiggins officiating. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery.
