Dalton A. Hoefling

Dalton A. Hoefling, 92, of Yorktown died Sat. June 4, 2016. He was born May 15, 1924 in Yorktown to the late Charles Martin and Emma DuBose Hoefling. He attended Yorktown High School and joined the US Navy May 20, 1943. He served aboard the USS New Orleans during WWII and was honorably discharged March 5, 1946. Dalton married Lucille Dorothy Howard on Sept. 5, 1948. He was a self employed mechanic and enjoyed restoring old Ford tractors and trucks. He was a member of VFW Post 8136 and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He helped organize the Yorktown Trail Riders and rode his horse BO, named after his favorite television show, on many trail rides. He participated in numerous Yorktown Western Days paraded on horseback, carrying the trail riders flag. He also enjoyed dancing, and he and his wife danced many polkas and waltzes at country dance halls. He is survived by his daughter, Joan and husband James Urban of Yorktown. Dalton has seven grandchildren: Shawn Hoefling and spouse Lizzy of Washington D.C., Chris Hoefling and spouse Angela of Port Neches, Justin Urban and spouse Lindsey of San Antonio, Jarett Urban and spouse Dr. Terrance Hines of Austin, Wendy Liddle and spouse Brad of Allen, Dane Hoefling of Victoria and Kendall Selby and spouse Travis of Port Lavaca. He has 10 great grandchildren: Caitlyn Hoefling, Tyler Hoefling, Kristen Hoefling, Ashlyn Urban, Hayden Urban, Hannah Urban, Hudson Urban, Hunter Liddle, Holden Urban and Lily Urban. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 64 years, his son Kenneth Hoefling and his four siblings: twin Dorothy Dueser, Mattie Borgfeld, Delbert Hoefling and Carl Hoefling. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 6 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday June 7 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment was at Westside Cemetery.
