Johnnie J. Urban, age 86, of Portland, Texas, was called to his heavenly home on April 1, 2016. He was born on farm near Weesatche. He was the youngest of 10 children.
He went to Evergreen Country School which consisted of a one-room school house where one teacher taught all subjects in all grades 1 through 8. He graduated from Goliad High School in 1948.
He married his lovely wife Charlotte Clinkscales on Aug, 16, 1953. Johnnie served two years in the U.S. Army of which one year was in Korea. For 40 years he worked for PPG Industries, which later became Elementis Chromium, 36 of those years as a maintenance supervisor.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, son James Kent, sisters Ellien, Lillie, Annie, Lucille, Florine and brothers Erwin, Raymond and Norman, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Johnnie is survived by his wife Charlotte of 62 1⁄2 years, sons Steven (Susan), Doug (Deanna) and Russell (Diane). He is also survived by granddaughters Cara, Rachel, Alissa, Karen, Lindsey and Jessica. Great grandchildren Bryan, Brooklyn, Emily, Kai, Jackson, Peyton, Corbin and brother William and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 at First Baptist Church, Portland. Graveside service followed at Palms Memorial Gardens.
